Need some desperate assistance...we don't have a local SYSADMIN SQL login nor do we have BUILTIN\Administrators with any access and now the 'sa' account is locked out.

Please assist

If you do not have any accounts with sysadmin rights and the sa account has become locked there isn't much you can do.

I assume that it was locked because someone tried to log in with the wrong password to many times and the SQL Server locked the account per the domain security policy?

Or did someone manually lock the account?

If the SQL Server runs under a Windows account that account probably has sysadmin rights to the SQL Server and you should be able to log in with that account.

If you run under the local system account, and the sa account was manually disabled then you may be reinstalling the SQL Server.

Mr Denny...thanks as usual for the information. Yes, someone did manually disable the account mistakenly and SQL Server is running under the local system account. Luckily we tracked down the user who made the error who had added himself as a 'sysadmin' so we used his login to unlock the account....so goes the pains of remote sites at small companies that we're in the process of taking over their IT related functions. Thanks again.

No problem.
