SQL 2005: Page/File restores

Another question I'm sure I know the answer to, but I'm going to ask anyway.

SQL 2005 offers online restore of files & pages. Now, if I'm not mistaken, in order to do a restore of a database to another instance/box, you still have to have the full set of files & pages, right? Or has anyone tried restoring a database with only certain files?

I'm wondering if you could partition tables horizontally and restore only parts of the partitioned table to another database...

Just another one of those random thoughts. @=)

That's the rumor that you are supose to be able to restore just the part of the table. Haven't had a chase to try it however.

Yeah, as soon as the developers give me the info on how they want there table partitioned, I'm going to give it a try. :)
