Hi,

when i run the 2005 install I am not getting an option to specify the instance name or the sa password.

I'm installing standard edition by running the splash. file

Any ideas?

I would have thought there was a page that should have displayed with these options as has been the case on other installs

Is there already an instance of sql installed on the server. To get the sa option you must select mixed mode as the authentication type.

SQL Server 2005 has a much more intuitive installer. It will detect your configuration on the server and react to that config by giving you options available to you.

You should have gone through a complete analysis of the server and your upgrade strategy first and this would have helped you answer the questions you had while going through this step.

the server has no other installed sql server options.

when i open management studio i can connect to other sql server 2005 instances but not this one.

during install, i was not given any options for authentication mode, instance name, system databases etc.

Are you sure you're not clicking the setup for SP1 or something odd like that?

Also, what did the "System Configuration Check" show you? Did it have errors in it or warnings?
