Hello all... am in a bit of a jam and could use some good advice.... I had the array that holds all my databases crash... the array has bee restored and has all the data on it, but sql will not start... seems to be analysis services and sql server agent, and the sql server service that will not start... nothing on the server has changed... only that the array with the mdfs had dissappeared for a while and has now come back... version is sql 2005.... any feedback would be greatly appreciated... thank you

Where is the master database's mdf and ldf?

Is the server actually seeing the array? I've had it happen where the server still couldn't see the array.

Have you checked the services on the server? Are the SQL Server services running?

Have you checked the Windows Event logs to see if there are any error messages related to this issue?

thanks for getting back to me... The server is now seeing the array, it is just that sql will not start... specifically Analasys Services, SQL Server & SQL Server Agent....

Event log is loggin 17058 and 19019... which essentially is saying that sql failed to start and that sql failed to read the error log.... I have pasted the contents of that error log being referenced below.... Seems to say it cannoot open the log because access is denied....

Since this SQL Server is using MS Clustering, I tried to fail over to the other server and that one does the same thing...which leads me to think it is more a problem with the data on the array than the actual sql software... Any wisdom you can share would be greatly appreciated...thanks again....

Matt

from what I understand from the error log I posted and my experience trying to get this to run,.... It seems that the master database is corrupt... I have been trying desperately to get the command to rebuild it right, but to no avail.... can anyone lead me in the right direction here to get the master database rebuilt.???? Thanks

Long shot. I would try opening the SQL config manager. Change the login the SQL Service to something else - then change it back to whatever account you want to use.

When you chose an account here - it should make sure you have the correct permissions.

Do this at your own risk however!

Thanks all for your help.... basically all the DB's that were on that array seem to be corrupted. I tried attaching some of the to another sql server I set up and they will not attach... but not only that, but any of the .bak files that were on that array will not restore to the new server.... fortunately I had those .bak files on a tape from the night before and they were able to be restored to the new sql server.... was just an unbelievable disaster.... I had tried all those command line things to try and get sql to rebuild its system db's, but to no avail... coincidentally I am in the process of moving my dbs to a new server anyway, so this just really sped up the process... thanks again everyone for all your help

Matt
