We are planning to install a SQL Cluster on vmware for our sharepoint 3.0 solution.
Any recommendations on how much resources should be used for this cluster? CPU, RAM and disk... Where is the database file placed when having the cluster on vmware?
Sizing a virtual SQL Server is just like sizing a physical SQL Server.
The CPU and RAM requirements will be dictated by how large the database will be. If it's a small database then a Gig or two should be fine. If your sharepoint database will be larger then you will need several Gigs for SQL Server.
The same goes for disks. The busier the sharepoint site will be the higher end and larger the disks will need to be. Data files, logs and tempdb should be split between physical devices just like if it was a physical cluster.
