Hi All,

Can someone tell me if this is correct:

In sql server 2005, there is BIDS which allows you to create reports. Does 2005 have report builder? Is there reporting services in sql server 2005?

In sql server 2008, there is SSRS, now what is the difference between reporting services and report builder?

Many Thanks

Defining SSRS is kind of like defining .Net. It's not totally straight forward.

The following is all true for both 2005 and 2008.

1. You get SQL Server Reporting Services, which are services and a report rendering interface.

2. You get BIDS, which is a subset of Visual Studio which allows you to author SSRS reports.

3. You get Report Builder which is a simple report authoring tool geared towards IT and non-IT personnel.

The features are somewhat different between versions.

Just to add an example, we use both BIDS and Report Builder here. IT folks use BIDS to create reports because it's more flexible, our end user uses Report Builder because it's fairly simple to use.

Thanks for that....

is report builder available in sql server 2005?

Cheers
