SQL 2005 agent error: Unable to open or read TSX cache file

I am getting this error an all my SQL 2005 target servers in the agent error log when I start it up. My master server is a SQL 2000.

The servers are Enterprise edition SP2, windows 2003

Any ideas why? The full error os:

Unable to open or read TSX cache file 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.3\MSSQL\JOBS\TSXCACHE.BIN' (win32 error code: 2)

And its right - there is no file in that directory...

It seems that the process is looking into the wrong directory.
what else do you know about the process?

Have you checked you registry keys dealing with the SQL Server Agent?

Has there been any server name change that could have affected the SS Agent?

You could drill into Enterprse Manager and then into the Properties of SQL Server Agent to verify. Change the "Service Startup Account" to a domain admin account if possible or your account if it has sufficient privs and save the changes. This will write out to the registry hive.

Hi Jay,

None of the target servers have had their name changed. The directory is there, but the .bin file isnt.
The SQL agent on the master and target servers all use the same account - it is not a domain admin (and quite rightly so!!) but it certainly has the correct privileges on that folder - I can log onto each server as that account and see the folder). As I said, the folder is there - but not the .BIN file so the message is correct - it isnt there. I am wondering how to create it - and ideas?
