Hi all,
We are preparing to install SQL 2000 onto windows 2k3. Our current SQL installation only has SP1 and I know we have to Upgrade to sp3 on the server AND the clients. My question is this, Can we upgrade the clients to SP3 first and then upgrade the server or does the server HAVE to be first? We are planning to upgrade off hours and management is worried about too much OT.

I do not beleive there is a conflict on the order of installation. We have systems w/ varying versions of the SPs availabe though we are planning very soon to get all of them on SP3a. Unfortunately, some of our servers are at remote locations, far away states, that we do not feel comfortable in doing the upgrade in case something were to happen and we would need to reboot the server!

Thanks

J. Kusch

You shouldn't have any problems doing either one first. When I was rolling it out, back when slammer was going around, I was able to do the install from remote with out any problems. Only one machine needed to be rebooted, and that was a new install, and I forgot to close an app that was running.

Between the ESP=ON and the RUM (Read Users Mind) upgrade, I'm ready to go.

Sorry it took so long to reply. Just wanted to say thanks for answering my question.
