We caught a virus and had to reinstall SQL 2000 server on a windows 2003 system. My second instance sql name is MBHQSQL\SQL03, but when I try to recreate the instance it does not allow me because of the back slash. Any ideas how to get that same name?

Not sure how you are trying to reinstall that instance but you do not use a "\" when giving it the instance name.

So, when reinstalling SQL you come to the part where it asks you to provide the instance name (and I am assuming you have already created a default instance thus you are being asked for the instance name) ... just enter SQL03.

You do not give it the full ServerName\Instance name.

You will then connected by the MBHQSQL\SQL03 name afer installation.

Thanks
