I am trying to connect to our SQL server via SQL Server 2000 Analysis manager, I right click on the Servers folder and choose 'Register Server' and I enter the server name, then I get this error

"Connection to Server Failed
Errors occurred whilst connecting to server
Cannot open connection to Analysis server
Cannot connect to the server. The server is either not started or too busy. Do you still want to register this server?."

When I say yes to this the server name appeared in the list, but I cannot connect to it as has little red icon next to it.

I spoke to our IT department and asked them to check that Microsoft SQL Server OLAP Service was running on the server, they came back to me and gave me instructions on ensuring that the application was in as an exception in Windows firewall, which I did, but still getting the same error, so wondered if anyone had any ideas.

Thanks

John

Red icon usually mean the server have been stop. Did you check to see if the server start and running?

Yes IT checked this, and I can log onto the application which sits on this server.

Would the analysys server name just be the same as the server name as I log onto it from windows?
