windows xp pro sp2. a friend of mine accidentally launched a file that installed a bunch of bad things in my laptop. I scanned with Spybot, Adaware and MS Anti-Spyware. Nothing helped. Popups still come up like crazy and I'm not sure where to look. I got a lot of stuff on this computer and also it would be pretty bad if there is also any keyloggers that were installed. Any suggestions?

I'd recommend wiping your hard disk and reinstalling the operating system. Honestly, if you've tried those tools to remove the problem and they still remain, then I doubt you'll have much luck cleansing your system totally.

Cheers,
Jeff

Any help here? Key point to remember with XP - disable system restore before you start and remember to reenable it when you're done.

The best anti scumware package I've found is spysweeper. It's about £30 and worth every penny. Saved my sanity opn a number of occasions :) I put it on my mates machine and found 13500 traces 4 weeks after an re-install, he was wondering why it was acting up

Spy sweeper can grind your system/network to a halt, so be carefull.

I found someone with the ao19.startpage which AVG,MS AntiSpy, Trend, Panda, and Sophos claimed to have removed but once he rebooted they were back with a vengence.

We found cleared them like a treat, and it's free for 14days trial full version.

Although I have upgraded our systems To NAVCE V10 now and prefer Symantec over anything else.

but if you really havge problems removing the baddies then i agree the best and "SAFEST" option is to wipe the C drive and start again!

Good luck, I hate those evil code writers!!!

Go to Trendmicro.com and do their free online antispyware scan , their tool seems to find stuff that adaware and spybot doesn't including all the nasty stuff , works well and it's free !!!!
