I was recently infected by spygraphica

Google search shows it is a commerically-sold program for logging keystrokes and snapshots and periodically emailing them somewhere.

All of the google sites I saw said it it a manually installed program.

The only people with access to my computer are my family. I talked to them and am fairly certain they didn't install it.

My question: is there anyway some hacker could take that commercial program and turn it into a virus that they could send over the internet?

Note shortly before I detected this virus I had accessed a few strange websites including one that communicated by peer-to-peer connection.

To answer your question, yes it is possible...

ie. trough a JScript or ActiveX, which your Browser may interpret if the are turned on... there are various other methods available...

best is usually to disable JSCRIPT except where it is needed and safe to do so, ie. Bank...

also switching to a more secure browser does a lot for security aswell, ie. FireFox, Flock, Opera, etc... or Tighten your Security in IE where JScripts and ActiveX are also disabled...
