Has anyone downloaded and tried out the Beta version of 2007?

If so I have a couple of questions out of interest more than anything:

Do all the features work with office 2k3 or do you need the new office as well?

Can you browse to sites like you can currently with the portals areas?

I would love to have a look myself but I cant drain our internet connection for that long.

Cheers.

I am running the 2007 beta 2. There will certainly be some new features that might not work with the old 2k3 version of office. I have not compared much yet, since I have installed the new office on my client aswell. What I have tested so far are the RSS feeds, the possibility to take documents offline, connect lists and calendars, which can be edited either in outlook or on the sharepoint site.

I can say that the 2007 version is so much different from the 2003 Portal version. You do not have the same distinct separation between WSS and SPS, the two products integrates a lot more closer.

Too bad there is not much install info or usage info published yet. But the Central Administration is totally different and you now create web applications for several things, like serach and indexing, you need to setup a shared service in a separate web application.

I have only been running this installation since 24th of may when I saw the beta 2 was release.

I am running it on a W2K3 R2 with SQL2005 and the installation was a piece of cake in this version too.

Cheers,
Thomas

Did you import/migrate/upgrade an existing SPS2003 installation (testing environment obviously.) If so was that side of things complicated?

Thomas, do you have a good link to the beta2 download? There was supposedly one in the MSD2D newsletter, but it led down a rabbit hole.

MSDN's OK; I have a subscription.
