spreading background images

hallo,

is it possible to have a flexible image in a background, like it is in the <img> tag? I would like the my elements (its width changes dinamically, will have a background that fits the whole width everytime.

Nope, not with the current technology. I do believe there is a recommendation for that in CSS3, but it is not implemented yet.
