We have a sporadic issues with Nortel 1140 IP phones going into "starting DHCP" or they will say Cable Unplugged. We have Brocade Network, but we are slowly moving to Cisco. Everything seems to work fine on Cisco (that we have tested).
We currently use Auto config via DHCP string - I have seen this issue happen even if we hard code DHCP, S1/S2, VLAN, etc.
We believe the issue is something odd/strange with port security and dual-moding (VLAN) the ports for phone and PC. Call it an incompatibility issue.
We assume other customers using Foundry and 1140E have possibly reported this issue, so I was asking this forum to see if you guys have heard of other reports of some strange issue.
One example we just had today was that an 1140 was working fine for a few days and then went to Starting DHCP. Another phone upon install went to 'Cable unplugged' and I replaced it with a different phone and it works fine. Then I bring that 'bad' phone back to my desk and it is able to configure/setup just fine and operates properly. My desk port used to be on Foundry but is now on Cisco.
These issues randomly occur (even in our remote site) and we have installed new switch code and rebooted switches and have pretty much exhausted many troubleshooting hours on this.
Thanks in advance if you have heard anything related to this - if you are able to offer any advice.
