Can anyone help me out with this problem? When I attempt to install a HP LJ1300 printer on a Windows XP Pro svc pk 1 with the latest updates, (Spooler subsystem app has encountered a problem and needs to close), error mesage appears. I have tried just about everything you can think of but have not been successful. I even performed the following steps.
------------------------------------------
6247 » When you try to print in Windows XP, you receive 'Operation cannot be completed'?
When you try to print in Windows XP, you receive:
Operation cannot be completed.
When you try to Start or Stop the Spooler service, or try to open Start / Printers and Faxes, you receive:
Spooler subsystem app has encountered a problem and needs to close.
This behavior can occur if you installed a printer and the installation detected a 3rd party print driver or service.
To resolve this issue:
01. Shutdown and restart in Safe mode.
02. Open Windows Explorer.
03. Delete all files and sub-folder under %Windir%\system32\spool\printers.
04. Delete all files and sub-folder under %Windir%\system32\spool\drivers\w32x.
05. Run regedit /e WindowsNTx86regkey.reg "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environment\Windows NT x86" in case you wish to restore this registry Key.
06. Delete all sub-keys of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environment\Windows NT x86 EXCEPT:
Drivers
Print Processors.
07. Run regedit /e PrintMoniotrs.reg "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors" in case you wish to restore this registry Key.
08. Delete all the sub-keys of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors EXCEPT:
BJ Language Monitor
Local Port
PJL Language Monitor
Standard TCP/IP Port
USB Monitor
09. Disconnect the printer cable from the computer.
10. Restart the computer.
11. Reconnect the printer cable to the computer.
12. Install the printer using the manufacturer's installation instructions for Windows XP.
13. Print a test page.
