I am working on a PC that started getting this error:
Spooler subsystem app has encountered a problem and needs to close
I followed the RegEdit steps suggested in Microsoft KB article #810894 and it still does not work.

Now, instead of showing any error at all, the PC appears like it's going to print, but instead of printing it just shows a printer with a red question mark on it in the System Tray. When I open the Printer Queue it just says "Error - printing".

I saw the following posted in
I just recently found a nice tool that just might help. Grab the MS toolkit here:

You'll want to run cleanspl.exe after you install the toolkit. Click "no" when the program asks about removing various port monitors (so that you keep them). This tool will wipe out all printer drivers, devices, spooled jobs, anything & everything printer related. It's done the job for me on several occasions.
Is that what I should do now?

Please advise... Thanks,
Eliezer

...if it's relevant, I forgot to mention that the printer is an HP LaserJet 1020.

Cleanspl.exe is a recommended solution for this type of problem.

See this very good thread about this type of problem.
