Hi, I just upgraded from Illustrator 8.0.1 Mac to Illustrator CS2. Nice upgrade so far. I'm afraid I got lazy a few years ago and added Vector FX to my Plugin folder & now I can't seem to do Insets on converted text...any help appreciated...Thanx

Mad:

The text engine in Illustrator was overhauled for CS, after v10, so that may have something to do with it... I don't know what an inset is (probably Vector FX terminology), but if it interacts with text in Illustrator, my money's on the engine. You could see if there's an available update or new version of Vector FX, or if you even need it in CS2. What exactly are you trying to accomplish?

Thanks for the reply, an inset in Vector FX is a true inline/ outline tool that comes in real handy with a vinyl cutter. You can cut a different color outline or cut a letter in an outline only to the thickness you want. This tool was in use daily here. Still have 8 installed & can still do it, but would like to eliminate my OS 9 Partition asap. Hope that explains it properly, and thanks again...mp

I remember Vector FX, It did 3D right?

Anyway I think you need:

Object>Path>Offset Path.

Unfortunately Adobe still has not added a slider control to Offset Path like in Freehand.

Maybe when CS7 comes out next year it will have that feature. *sarcasm*

Thanks! Fizzak,That's just what I was looking for. Now another question. I added a drop shadow to the offset outline only & welded them together in Pathfinder.Unfortunately the cut lines still exist between the outline & shadow, where Illustrator 8 welded them into one piece, guess I'll just have to play with it more...Thanks again!...MP

Sorry, slow to reply this week.

After you: Offset Path I think you need to: Pathfinder>Merge the cut lines.

Thanks, Have it all down now. I think it was Illustrator 6 since I used these tools. Thanks again!!..MP
