SPM Guidlines for remote connecting

I have had trouble connecting to sites with my desktop forever. It will either connect then go crazy or just not connect. I can connect using my laptop, but still run into this issue from time to time. Is there a FAQ somewhere about using your PC to connect remotly without these annoying issues?
