where can i get SPM for download?
I have an Avaya FTP site and tried to dowload the SPM2.exe
but when going through the installation process it asked me to insert disk#2?
I don't have any disks, I just clicked the exe file.

any thoughts?

thanks

Download the WinSPM 5.0 update from Avaya support. It should be a very large file - because it is the full version. You can then use the successive patches to update to Release 9.0.

THANKS TOM!

I downloaded I can only get as far as 6.0...I see the 6to7patch and 7to8 patch. But it won't let me go past 6.0
when I do the 6to7 is say's 6 must be installed first, but it is?
Also I have xp and trying to connect through the Admin port direct connect...I get winspm has encountered an internal error, must abort.

Any ideas to help me out?

Thanks

Sounds like you picked up a corrupted file somewhere along the line. I hate to suggest it - but I would delete WinSPM and start over with fresh 5.0 download. Depending on what version of processor you have - WinSPM 5.0 may be enough. If there are problems connecting via the admin port - you also have the option of connecting via modem and an open port on an 012 or 016 module. They work the same. Try to connect just after re-installing a fresh version of the WinSPM 5.0 and see what happens. I assume you have the necessary connectors to hook up to the admin port. Hopefully you have a 355AF adaptor - otherwise it won't work. Again, you can connect via your computer modem and a port on an 012 or 016 card. Let me know what happens.

Thanks once again,
I do have the connector....do I need a DB25 to 9 also to my com port on my laptop?

Is it a cat5e patch cord also?

thanks!

where can i get a good version of SPM?

I went to the Avaya site and downloaded SPM 5.0
I set up my site and did a bench test with my Merlin v.1.0
processor clicked on connect...and nothing happened?

help?

You need the 355AF, a DB25 to DB9 converter, and a straight-through ethernet cable from the 355AF to the admin port on the processor. If you can't connect - you may need to reset the "admin" port through system programming. If you still can't connect - try the modem route to an 012 or 016 port.

By the way - what processor and software version are you running? If you have a Magix processor - the 5.0 release of WinSPM may not work - you need to upgrade it. You can buy WinSPM on eBay and from most Avaya and Telcom vendors. If you check on Froogle - you may find some good deals. It should go for around $50 for the latest version. Even if you buy an older one - you can upgrade via the patches at Avaya.com.

Hi Tom,
Your very helpful.
I appreciate it..........How do I reset the Admin port with my MLX set?

Thanks

If you have an MLX-20L, go into menu, maintenance, port, RS232 port 2, reset. Port 1 I believe is the SMDR port. But, to be safe I would "reset" both.

I have a MLX10D....not good is it.
I will try the 012 method and let you know what happens.

thanks

When you tried going from SPM 6 to 7 did you install the reg fix that Avaya has on their site. I had the same problem when updating 6 to 7.

Nope - you can't use an MLX-10 for programming - so your only option is via modem and an 012 or 016 port. Also, jaco8867 is correct - when upgrading from WinSPM 6 to 7, you need to also download and FIRST run the R6 registry patch (very small file) - BEFORE you attempt the 6 to 7 upgrade. The rest of the upgrades will then work just fine.

OK,
I have 9.0 SPM installed I have my 355 adapter I have my DB25 to 9 serial connector to connect to my com 1 on my laptop and my cat5e RJ45 568A Patch cord.

Now when I setup my site for the ADMIN port connection and click connect I get nothing, no action.

I call the *10 I get modem tone.
I do the internal modem connection, I get modem tone but no connection and I can't do anything, I have to ctl-alt-del out.

am i doing this right?

thanks again

I was going to say - reset the admin ports - but you can't - because you have no MLX-20L. Is there a live telephone line connected to the system - you need at least one. How do you know your 012 card is correctly recognized by the system? Is this an existing or old system? Did you move cards around without doing a board renumber? If this a system you just put together - did the processor do a "frigid" start - when first fired up ("F" symbol on the processor) or a "cold" start ("C" symbol)? You may need to force a "frigid" start - so that the way the modules are currently installed is recognized by the system (a frigid start does an automatic board renumber). To do that without a programming phone, you need to open the clamshell and yank the jumper just below the two round blue Tokin capacitors for a minute or so, then reinstall the jumper, clamshell and reseat processor module and power it back up. Then try to connect via the 012 card.

Hi Tom,
This is an old system, the processor has no LED indicator on it, I think it's a V1.0..YA THAT OLD.
Actually the system was not turned on for about a year...I need the processor for a site that has an SMDR port down.
Can't I connect my Laptop to a port on the 012 with a coupler and connect analog set with it and dial *10 then click O.K?
The cards were not moved around, but if I can reset the processor via opening the shell I will as long as it's the same procedure you stated.
I will open it up. Do I yank the jumper start the Processor shut the processor, put the jumper back and re-start.
Or do I do this Live.

Thanks Tom

I opened the back of the processor with the two hinges that where attached to the casing.
I see a jumper next to the SMDR and ADMIN Coil capacitor
it's labeled HDR5.
Then there's another jumper near the first round battery labeled HDR3.
And then there's a HDR4 next to the back board 32 pin connector.
Which HDR?

Thanks

OK - I didn't realize that your processor was that old. The other possibility - is that your processor has "bought the farm". When you can buy a nice used CKE4 on eBay for $50 or a CKE3 for $30 - you are probably wasting your time with the antique processor you have. I am not sure I have a processor old enough to look at - for comparison. The procedures I talked about would apply to a CKE3 or CKE4. The older processors had a back-up battery rather than a capacitor - and the batrtery is probably long-dead - meaning any programming you do will be lost when the system is shut off or when a power outage occurs. What does the label say on the top back tang? It should something like "517A27". Maybe you have a Merlin II processor - which is a different ballgame.

If the processor is Legend Release 1 you cannot use winspm. You will need the DOS SPM.
