I have a ? about SPM working with Verizon's FIOS. I'm being
hounded by Verizon to switch from copper to FO...I was told
alarm panels, fax machines will work...Ok, what about dial
modems attempting to connect to a Legend...have any of you
gurus experience this....if so...does it work?
Thanks in Advance.

You won't have any problems connecting to legend/magix systems since they use such a slow baud rate. Connecting to modems at speeds higher than 9600 are very unlikely. Same goes with any other VOIP type transport.

I agree with kmefford, If Verizon can guarente Fax machines which communicate at a baud rate of 14.4k then you should have no problems connecting at the 2400k maximum connection speed on the Legend. Your lucky to be able to get Fios. We are still waiting up here for it. I heard rumors of a turn up in 2009. We will see if that really happens.

Tell GTE/Verizon to pound sand! You can keep your copper, they can't force you to change. Also you would have to supply power for their box, that is a cost you don't have now with copper. At least with copper to the CO, the line works when there is a power failure. If it's copper to a Remote Terminal or Carrier, it lasts as long as the battery has a charge.

In California they are still the 'GROSS TELEPHONE EXPERIENCE"! Or the "Giant Telephone Experiment" that failed!

I have a COPPER LINE for my Modem and FAX, and VOIP for my "MAIN" telephone number.

Here's the deal:

My modem DOES NOT WORK over "RAW" VOIP. I have, however, placed a DSL Filter between my PHONE SYSTEM (MAGIX 4.0) and the VOIP Box and have had "LIMITED" success. But DON'T COUNT ON IT!

Funny someone else suggested the HIGHER SPEEDS would not work, in my several years experience, I have found that the 1200/2400 speed is the most UNFORGIVING in the way of line hits and what ever. NOT TO MENTION, you have to set up SPM to have NO ERROR CORRECTION.

That being said, remember, I mentioned above, I AM PAYING EXTRA for a COPPER LINE, just so I can do my job of programming these things.

Good Luck!

My 2 cents ... I agree with Merlinman. I've tried a few Digital services, and while they are fine for voice, they are NOT so nice to legacy modems and their successful communication with a remote terminal.

I keep 2 Copper Lines for the sole purpose of communicating with Legacy Definity's, Legends,Magix and other various dark-ages remote devices!
They are being used on a Magix R4, thru the 016 analog board and under normal conditions never have connection issues. It just always works (unless it hit the VOIP Line!, which it no longer has access too...)
