Splitting up strings...?

Questions, in the database the date is saved as mmddyy so from vb i pass it as that to the CR parameter field. But then I also need it to display on the report and I dont want it to show up as 010199. So i guess i need to split it up in 3 parts and put / between. How would I do that?
