We have a Dell PowerEdge 2800 that is a 1-8 SCSI backplane We have two drives that are mirrored. We are going to split the backplane to 2-4 but the two mirrored drives will be on the same controller as each other. Will this break the mirror?
TIA for any help.

You should not have a problem if you follow this...

Simple....
Since it was not split, the mirror was on one channel, make sure you know which scsi channel the 2 drives were. The 2 drive array needs to remain on the SAME channel it was on originally, preferably the drives should remain in the same slots. ABOVE ALL DO NOT try to place one drive of the mirror on one channel and the other on the second channel, or you will mess up the array. The newer raid adapters allow "drive reordering" on the same channel but not movement of drives off the originally configured channel.

More involved...
There is a way to place the drives over two channels but is more involved. You would need to fail one of the drives, more the failed drive to the second channel, place the drive online, configure the two drives for raid 1, and have the moved drive rebuild.
Hope this helped

It should depend on the controller you're using. Modern U320 cards like Megaraid 320-2 support moving the drives around without hurting anything.

If the drives are on the same channel, this is referred to as "drive roaming", this is not supported over different channels.
