Split sreen effect

Hey
I'm only new at using premier and i was woundering how to have the split screen kind of effect.
Also, say if i had a person running and only wanted his upper body how would i cut the lower half off?

Any handy hints would be greatly appreciated.

Split screens are done by placing the background video clip on Video1 track and the clip on top on the Video2 track. Then right-click the Video2 clip and go to Transparency. From there in the right hand corner you will see your Video2 clip (you may have to click 1 of the 3 buttons below to see your Video). Then drag the boxes in the corners anyway you want to split the screen. The same can be done for your second request except your background video would have to be exactly the same as your foreground, but without the person running.
