I am trying to do something very specific. A friend of mine and I are re-writing a text and instead of the usual format of row-style commentary a la

re-write
1st comment
2nd comment
2nd re-write

We would like to do a side-by-side, columnstyle so that I can do my re-write and he can do his and we can see them on the same page in a column format:

rewrite y | re-write x
re-write 2y | re-write 2x

So I want the columns to be absolute and separate, so that when i write in the left column, it does not go over into the right column when I hit the bottom, but starts the next page, and the same for him in the right column.

Hope this is clear and I really hope it can be done.

Thanks,
Chris

What you want does not seem to be possible.

However, if the text is fairly short, it might be possible to fit both versions onto one maximum-height page. The maximum height seems to be 1190mm, roughly 4 A4 pages.

Alternatively, you could simply keep the two versions in separate files, and open them in two separate instances of Writer, side-by-side on the screen.

Or put the text in a two-column table.
When you're done, delete the 'comments' column, then convert table to text.

cheers
Jay
