Dear all,

is anyone experience yet Nortel split-mlt with 8600? I would like to know if the convergenge is good enough as Nortel claim.

(Configuration: 2 8006 link with IST. Edge is BS470 with 2 uplink GBIC / SLMT)

Thanks in advance

Le

We did a continous ping test from a SMLT going to a stack of 450's. In most cases only one iping was lost. The most pings that we lost was 2. hope this helps.

My suggestions are what I would try myself. If incorrect, I welcome corrections to my knowledge.

We are running smlt at 4 different locations some with as many as 26 wiring closets connected via fiber. During the initial install we completely shut off one of the two core 8600's and only missed 1 ping to the closets. One recommendation I have is to run VRRP as well. Another issue that we discovered more recently is that the 450's assume their gig link is up as long as the tx has light. In our case we lost the switch fabric in one of the core 8600's (most places we have redudent fabrics) but because the 8 port gig module still had power the 450's on the remote side assumed the link was still up. Ending result is the end users that were coming across that link where down and never shifted over to the other fiber. This is a confirmed bug and Nortel's work around is to enable auto-negotiate on both ends.
