Goodday all,

I am trying to install SQL server 2000 STD so that all the app, the db and logs are kept in separate partitions.

C: (10GB, NTFS) W2k Server + SQL SERVER 2000 Std.

D: (9.2GB, Fat32) .gho files saved from drive C:

E: (10GB, NTFS) ALL SQL logs

F: (10GB, Fat32) The DB

I found the way to redirect the App as well as the DB but I still haven'ty found how to redirect the logs.

It should'nt be too difficult, it's a typical Interface 13 problem (between the keyboard and the chair!!)

Thanks for the help,

Simon

If you have not created any DBs its a snap and even if you have ... No Biggie.

Go to Enterprise Manager(EM). Right-click on the Server and choose Properties. Then click on the Database Settings tab.

From there you see that you have option to set the default data and tlog directories. Set the defaults to the needed partitions and any DB created from here on out will create the MDF and LDF on the correct partitions.

If the DB are already in place, you will need to run sp_detach_DB, move the MDF and LDF to its new location, then run sp_attach_DB and set the parameters to point to the new partitions the MDF and LDF now reside.

Hope this helps!

Thanks

Thank for the tip but my problem resides witht the relocation of the SQL Log files, not the DB files!

Do you have a simple solution for relocation the Log files on their own drive?

Thanks again,

Simon

I did cover that ...

If the DB are already in place, you will need to run sp_detach_DB, move the MDF and LDF to its new location, then run sp_attach_DB and set the parameters to point to the new partitions the MDF and LDF now reside.

Thanks

Or are you talking about the SQL Server error log files?

Thanks

Jay kept using the line "move the .mdf and .ldf to the new location", but what he really is saying is that all you have to do is detach the database and move whichever file you need to it's new location.

So, detach the database. Move the .ldf to E:/ and then attach the database. You will have to tell SQL Server where the .ldf is now located.
