Access 2007: I've designed a complex form and have a split form where the underlying table is shown below the form. Having "massaged" the form quite a bit, the column headings displayed for the underlying table are changed. I need to get them back to the original column names from the actual table, and I can't for the life of me figure out how to do it (despite searching the help and two voluminous and prestigious books). Can anyone give me a clue?

Assuming I understand you correctly.

The fields in a table have a caption property. In the table design view check the Caption property to see if you put a name in there. You can also do this in a query and have a different heading. In the query design view, right click on a field and choose the caption property.

I've figured out what to do, though it's manually intensive.

As I was designing the form, I changed the labels for the fields to new names. Despite changing the layout for these fields from "stacked" to "remove", the new label names stayed associated with the columns in the display of the split table.

The fix was to manually delete the labels from the form and add new - totally unassociated labels - back in the same place. This resulted in Access forgetting about the label associations - and displaying the split table with the original column names from the table itself. Hooray.
