There are quite a few phrases describing the sight of someone losing their temper or coherence in certain situations, one of which is the subject of this thread. Others might be 'threw their toys out of the pram', 'went off on one', 'did a Keegan' and 'Came over all tired and emotional'. Any others that people have come across?

I think "tired and emotional" is a euphemism for drunk rather than angry.

Agreed up to a point, Dagon, but I think it is also implicit that the person isn't in control of their emotions either.

Had a fit?
Had a temper tantrum?

I disaree with "tired and emotional" for drunk though, I haven't seen this kind.

Whatever they say I still haven't met this kind ever.Have you?

Do you mean you've never met someone who was literally "tired and emotional" when drunk ? Well, it is meant as a euphemism rather than an exact description of everyone who gets drunk. But clearly people do get more emotional when drunk (e.g. they can become much more aggressive or much more maudlin than normal). Also, sufficient alcohol will eventually lead to complete stupor (hence the "tiredness").

I've always heard 'tired and emotional' to mean that point in the evening when everyone starts saying

"Djua know - I've allas loved ewe.... ewe've allas been my bestestest friend...."

Trevoke - now that the US is awake, it might be a good time to warn that 'To get pissed' has another meaning altogether this side of the pond! Something like the earlier 'tired and emotional' perhaps.
