Can anyone give me some history on the SPIRIT. I have installed and maintained them but I have heard they were not on the market very long.

Seems like '87/'88 through '91/'92, something like that. Blinking lights sucked and were hard to explain to the users. Also personally did not like the programming.

Conferencing was bad, I believe there was a class action suit against ATT, They pulled it off the market and gave the people a deal on the Partner if they wanted a new system or something like that.

Check out page 10+11/64. John Shelton mentions the AT&T Spirit, but only to say that there was a defect that caused AT&T to issue coupons & credits for services or a Partner upgrade.

All I remember are 3 things:

It did not have LOOP START DISCONNECT - that is, if the other party hung up & you didn't (Or had placed the call on hold), the line was busy FOREVER!

-AND- IT did not have a CALENDAR, so, (NOT A BAD THING) you didn't care about Y2K.

-PLUS- on one model, if a call rang in, and you were talking on an extension set to ring, you would here STATIC.

I worked on one earlier this year, it was the first I had seen in over 8 or 10 years, and the client wouldn't even think about upgrading to a Partner.
