Can anyone suggest a way that I can apply a gradient to a spiral path so that the gradient follows the path. In other words so the path starts out at one end of the gradient, and finishes at the other, rather than the gradient being applied across the path.
Thought this was interesting so I gave it a go. I made a spiral stroke with the line tool. Made the stroke about 10 pts so I could see it. Object--Expand so I could fill it with a gradient. I made a basic 2 color radial gradient in the Gradient Palette. With the gradient TOOL I dragged a line from the innermost point of the spiral shape to the outermost point. It looked pretty good to me, but I am not sure if that'll for for you. Give it a shot.

If I understand you correctly then I think you would need to use a gradient mesh to achieve this.
Follow the same steps as RegistrationMark, but when you have the expanded shape use the gradient mesh tool to mark point within your shape along the route of the spiral. I would try a centre line kind of thing first.
Then you can apply different colours to different points along the mesh and they will blend together.
That said, I am not sure how good the effect will be and I am sure there must be a simpler way to do it that will achieve a better result.
