Following from Tracy's point about spelling of his name in the Pet Peeves thread, this site

(go to Name Voyager, which needs Java, and play!)

suggests that Tracy (with no "e")is more popular as a girl's name than a boys. As is Tracey with an e.

My female friend Tracy will be pleased to note that Tracy without an e is more popular in 2003.

Hm, Lesley seems about the same popularity as Leslie for a girl.... not sure that I trust this source!

Thanks for that info - very interesting.

I've noticed the same thing: Tracey is not used much any more, and not many boys are named Tracy these days. 49 years ago it wasn't that uncommon, and the gender differences in spelling were clearer. You didn't even mention Tracie - that one is becoming very rare.
