Is there a spell checker that can be used to check spelling inside <textarea></textarea>?

Yes you can. I know it is possible to do spell checking for a textarea, b/c hotmail does it. Don't know how though. [deejay]

They use a server-side script. They just compare each word to a dictionary file until it comes up with an unmatched word, then it shows you similar words and asks you to change your word... then it starts over. it does this until it has either matched or accounted for all unmatched words (or both).

You can get scripts like this for free, but maintaining the dictionary is a problem. I am currently working to create a spell checker similar to the hotmail one. gimme some time on that though -> probably not until June after I finish high school. Sorry Tarbuza. -gerrygerry

The real problem with creating a spell checker is that a lot of spells have many variant spellings of their words, depending upon which books of spells they come from and which language(s) they were translated from. Keeping up with all the new spells that people keep making up doesn't make it any easier.

I guess you would have similar problems with a spelling checker. Tracy Dryden
