We've got a user whose spellcheck only works some of the time. It seems that it does not work when he has boxes in his documents. When there are no boxes, his spellcheck works fine. He has Word 2003 on Windows XP.

Hi,

Boxes. Could you be more specific? There are all kinds of boxes.

These particular boxes look like boxes where someone is expected to enter text.

Can you be even more specific? Are these FORMS boxes? When a Word document is populated with Forms controls, in order to make them work, the form must be LOCKED, thereby rendering any spellcheck useless.

Other types of boxes, like Control Toolbox Textbox, would not inhibit spellcheck within the document, but any textbox would not be subject to spellcheck either.

If you try Tools > Language > Set Language, you'll find an option to set off the spelling and grammer test. This can be useful if you are entering a quote in a foreign language, say. Or computer code.

Probably you have it set on in the boxes. Selecting all, you'll find the 'spelling and grammer' option grey because some of the text checks and some does not. Set it off for everything.

Hi,
To spellcheck a document with the fields you are describing, you would have to use a macro that would unlock the form, spellcheck, and then lock the form again.

Blue, not totally known yet. They could be ActiveX textboxes, in which case, as they are not Forms textboxes, that would not apply. It probably is Forms, but we do not know for sure.

shoalcreek, Skip's question is still valid. We need to know what kind of boxes.
