Spell Check not working

This has been going on for a year since we've upgraded 5.5 -> 6. Spell checking works sometimes, then takes a minute to load and checks every single word the next. I've got the latest version, have all mapped drives for system files instead of UNC, etc.

This is on a Win2K Server w/5 Win2K Pro Clients...

Anyone else sharing our spell check woes??

Hmph. No one. Well, seems many people are having this problem, just not here! Heading back over to Usenet...

Hi,

Try adding the following to your GoldMine section

ssce_path=speller

and remove the SSCE related sections from the GM.INI.

with this ini entry in place, the spell checker should work even under
UNC paths.

You will probably need to rename the USERNAME.INI in the Speller\USERNAME
folders as well.

Note: If your using XP, in an XP compliant configuration (i.e. seperate
exe and data paths), as the server the SPELLER folder will need to be
copied to the exe directory as well.

Regards,

Richard.

Hi Richard,

Thanks for the reply.

I've tried each of your suggestions...

>>Note: If your using XP
No XP - all clients are W2K Pro, Server is W2K Server

>>Try adding the following to your GoldMine section
>>ssce_path=speller
and remove the SSCE related sections from the GM.INI
Tried that -- same problem

>>You will probably need to rename the USERNAME.INI in the
>>Speller\USERNAME folders as well.
Tried that -- the <username>.INI was rebuilt, but same problem

The "problem" being: it takes about 30-45 seconds of hourglass-watching, then the spell-checking begins, with another 20-30 seconds for each flagged word. It "works" technically, but with 5 users using it all day, every day, and not being the best spellers to begin with (no offense, guys! :), it's a big problem -- one which the president of the company beats me up on every week at the company meeting.

And FrontRange offers no real solutions...

I have it setup the way it "should" be, with shortcuts and pointers to mapped drives (all the same) instead of UNCs...

I'm open to any other suggestions.

Thanks,

Hi Richard,

Yes, switching to "fast but less accurate" was the most recent attempt to get it to work, and it did initially, but my users said it was slllow again in a few hours.
