This is a problem that involves much more that just the 740. Images are stored in you computer as RGB. To print to the 740, this image must be converted to Postscript by your computer and the sent via either the parallel port or the network to the 740 where the 740 must convert the Postscript to raster format for the print engine before it can print anything.
Remember that graphics files are very large. I have printed MS Publisher files containingg a lot of graphics that exceeded 300MB.
Possible speedup solutions include doing all of the following:
1. Get the fastest possible CPU in your computer.
2. Install as much RAM as possible. 512MB min. recommended. If there is not enough memory in your computer, it will waste a lot of time swapping it out to the swap file on the hard disk (some times called "disk thrashing"
3. Install 10/100BaseT network cards.
4. Increase the RAM memory in the 740 to at least 128MB or 256MB.
5. Use jpg graphic rather than bmp.
