speeding up printing in VB

Hello there,i have done a program for printing text files in A4 papers in two columns. What i have done is I made a subroutine printing character by character and line by line. Doing this makes my program to print and spool to the printer very slow specially for large text files.
anybody could help me?

Generally, I would print on a line by line basis. "Assemble" the line in memory, checking the printwidth with prior to each addition to the line. When it (the PROJECTED print width) exceeds the desired width, print the line and start the next one. WHAT to add to the 'prospective' line woulad depend on the information content and format, but would either be a character, a word or a field.
