Hi

I've recently gone wireless but have found performance has been severely compromised.

Have looked at software such as google web accelarator, but a bit concerned about the conditions of use.

Could anyone recommend an alternative or does anyone have any other ideas of how I could improve performance?

Thanks

wireless is by design slower than a wired connection.

You don't say which wireless protocol you are using - a, b, g, or n... If b, then I suggest you upgrade to some g or even n kit - it'll me much faster.

Also, encryption causes slow-down, so if you're faily isolated, you might consider switching off any WEP / WPA you're using.

Hope this helps,
Dan

There are download managers such as getright that will help with download. Also here are a couple tweaks for firefox in case you use it.

Up where you type the http address, type about:config and hit enter. Now in the filter box, type http

Double click network http pipelining to set its value to true

double click http proxy pipelining to set its value to true

You should notice an increase in speed on it.

I would dig into your wireless configuration a little deeper - make sure you have the most recent versions of drivers & firmware. Even the slowest wireless standards are probably sitll considerably faster than you internet connection.

Here goes an stupid question: how's your connection strength?

What eyec and others here are missing is the fact that the high-speed internet connection is slower than even the slowest wireless connection (when you have a decent signal). For example, the outdated Wireless B (11mbps) is around seven times faster than the average broadband connection (1.5mbps).

basildon,
Like the others said, check your signal strength and make sure you have the latest drivers installed. Also try connecting your computer "directly" to the wireless router over ethernet using a port on the back. That should help you rule out whether or not wireless is even a factor.

I'd also try changing your channel on your wireless connection, as you may have interference from someone elses connection.

As for wireless being much slower than wired, that's a big of a joke, most people very rarely hit 10% of a wired 100mbs connection ,even on a lan, let alone to a BB connection!
