I apologize in advance if this is a duplicate post, but I couldn't find anything posted previously in the search function.

I just moved over to MSP 2010...and it is PAINFULLY slow. I am running a rather large sites with the same template of 30 tasks for about 650 locations.

I will admit that I seriously lack patience, but it takes 30 seconds (I timed it) to complete each command...including just hitting the 100% button...before it will release it to allow me to make the next move.

Aside from making my schedule smaller, is there anything that I can do to speed it up...like the equivilant of Compact and Repair from Access?

We're *still* not on P2010 ... but Project has always been sensitive to the amount of memory available. How much memory is on your machine?

Is the file on your local machine or is it on a network device? There can be a lot of "chatter" between the program and the file for some changes so if the file is on a network device a slow network can have a profound impact.

It says that I have 60 GB of memory. I have tried it on my local machine (which was a better solution when I was still on 2007) and then after making my original post here, I moved it to our network, which is pretty fast. It improved it every so slightly...but still extremely slow.

60GB of memory? I don't think XP can even access a full 4GB of memory.

I must not have expressed myself clearly in my earlier answer.

Faster response: the file is on your own machine on a local drive.

Slower response: the file is on a network drive.

I can't think of anything else to suggest. Perhaps Julie has some thoughts.

Yes, the issue of local versus Network is significant. For reasons that I cannot explain, Project has always been very sensitive to network versus local saves.

You can try repairing the file through a save as XML and then import -- try on a copy first.

Also, do you really have 650 separate files rolled into one master project? Are you making changes in the master or in the subfiles?
