Speed up File Access

I am running NW4.2..I have several Access databases on my server...server has dual PII 650 processors and 1/2GB of memory..is there a way to speed up the way the server access's files???

I am not 100% sure about this but I recall that flagging a file as transactional (using the Flag command in the Public directory) AND the file was larger than 2Mb would load its' directory entries into the NetWare cache to speed up file IO.

1) Compact the access databases
2) Check your cache settings in windows and netware client.

If you have a lot of ram in workstation then change the File Cache Level to 3 (Win 9x Client 3.3) and set the max Cache size to 4096 M, if you have 64Mb or less then set to just 1024.

Check that you are running on 100Mb Full duplex too.
 
You can also increase performance at the server level by performance tuning and optimizing your netware server. Novell has a tid that you can print out that shows you all the setting that you can put in place to get the most speed and performance out of your server. I would recommend doing this above anything else.
