Speed up exchange backups

Does anyone know how to speed up exchanges backups? We've had arcserve 2000 running for a few months now and we had Exchange backing up at a throughput of between 150 to 250MB/Min, in the past week its dropped right down to 50MB/min. There has been no major changes to the MTA or the backups. Now its taking upto 15 to 20 hours as opposed to the 6 or 7 it was taking before. I've checked theres nothing out of the ordinary running in exchange, it all seems fine, so im a bit stuck as to why its taking so long now? There is no errors showing up in arcserve either?

Any ideas??
