Speed Up Dreamweaver CS3 FTP

Dreamweaver CS3 takes a while for it connect to the FTP server and verify all the files, etc. before it uploads or downloads a file. It also does this any time I change which site I'm connected to. Dreamweaver does a lot of file checking that a normal FTP client doesn't do that make it go a lot slower then a stand alone FTP client. Are there any speed tweaks out there are to make the FTP faster?. Is there a way to disable those extra file checks that it does? Or any other ideas?

Edit--> Preferences --> Site
If you are the only developer then grab a filezilla and don't use built in ftp. It is not the strongest side of DW but works will will multi-editor environment...otherwise it is just an overhead.
Also consider adding DW.exe (essentially port 21) to your firewall exceptions.
