Hi... We are using Livelink 9.7.1. Our users are complaining about the speed of updating categories. It took 5-8 hrs to update it from a higher level folder. Is there a work-around to speed up this process without investing in new/upgrade hardware? I know they could do this in off-hours, like overnight, but sometimes they need to update it right away during the day. Thanks for reading this and providing any tips for me.

Yes you could bump it up on the 'Admin' server to a higher number than 5 which is default by doing this change
categoryNumToUpgrade=5
I usually keep it at 100 when there are massive things
.Other modern day changes to do the same can be obtained by reading this document

appair... Thank you so much for your input. I will check see what categoryNumToUpgrade setting we have.

well if you have more than one livelink server then changing that number on 1 does not do the same on the other.so for consitency do the upgardes on the server you are doing the change.I meant 'Admin because in a livelink env it is usually the most powerful one that you designate

We have only 1 admin server and this is what I will make the change on. Besides the risk of web server times-out, what other risks am I expecting when I crank it up to 50? Thanks.

you should never get a webserver time out.you should be fine.the meta refresh that posts to livelink is just polling the status of things updated.Don't close the pop up window.Even if you re-start the livelink service you can refresh the pop up windows and it will resume from there.

Will I be running into the following issues?
•increased possibility of Database row/table level locks
•increased possibility of Livelink server thread locks

Thanks again.

not at 50 for any decent database
Do you use the Admin server for anything other than searching and change agents.When the pop up window posts different threads are servicing your request.If the admin server is strained beyond its resources already you could run into that I seriously doubt it.I have done it at a 1000 and have had no problems.Also why can you not test this to your satisfaction.Is this an org where your livelink infra is pretty limited and too young?Do you share your livelink database server with other apps.all of this will play into this.So testing is the only way you can figure out all these.the limit of 5 is just because if it is to be executed from a user browser session
