I have recently added a 3rd hdd to my PC which is a 15 Gb Maxtor ATA 100 drive. I have ATA 100 cables and it is the master on the 2nd IDE with my CD-RW as the slave on that cable. I am running windows XP Pro and whenever I try to copy files from one of my other hdd to it it takes forever to copy and if it is over 150 mb it times out and loses the hdd mapping. Anyone got any ideas on how I can resolve this?

I'm not sure with XP but in Win98... Do you have DMA enabled in the Device Manager for that drive? We are always looking for new members at: forums.jlrforum.net Please come join our community too.

Try taking out the CD drive (so the hard disk is on the IDE on it own).
Then try doing the copying. Could be your CD drive slowing it down (wouldn't have thought by that much mind!).
