Spectralink modem access

We have just installed a Spectralink 3000. Everythink is great but can only access through direct null cable to the computer terminal. Can anyone please walk me through setting this up for modem access. Polycom says it's an IT issue an won't help unless we buy a maintenance plan..we just had it installed can't believe they won't help..

I dial in and get to the DOS prompt but it ask for a password wich we don't have one. (just like it does for instance if cable is unplugged)

Please any help would be very appreciated. We have to be able to dial in sometimes....
