I have an access file on a novell 6.5 server. The first PC can open the file but a second of a specific type cannot. I have run Wireshark and it shows that the second PC attempts to write a record then gets a "file lock error". It only seems to happen on 1 particular machine type.

Any suggestions?

Have you checked the permissions for the PCs? Both will need fairly full permissions for the front-end and back-end folders.

yes, the folder where the database resides each person has full rights. What are "front-end folders"?

I should have said "the folders with the back-end and the front-end databases". Multi-user databases should be split. Have a look for an .ldb file. It is quite likely that the first user is locking the database.

Is there a summary that anyone can recommend of best design practices for MS-Access database apps?
