Special Index Field For Parent Item Status?

I was wondering if there is a data field in any table within the Macola Database that indicates whether or not a given Item Number is a Parent Item to some Bill Of Material.
In the Item File Maintenance, if you try to delete an Item that is a Parent Item to some Bill Of Material, Macola warns you to that fact. Does it do this by looking at some field that designates the Item as a Parent, or does it just somehow look to see if there's an associated BOM with the Item and then warn you?

Zuluman-

The field you described does not exist in Macola Item Master.

There is a field in IMITMIDX called Purch_or_Mfg which would indicate if teh item is a Purchased or Manufactured item. This field must be set to M-Mfg in order to add a BOM to Macola. However, it does not MAKE you enter a BOM if the field is M-Mfg.

You could query the IMITMIDX and BMPRDSTR files and make sure that everything in IMITMIDX that has is M-Mfg exists in the BMPRDSTR as a parent item.

I hope that helps. Let me know if you have more questions.

DGILLZ,
Remember I don't have the IMITMIDX table because I'm running an older version of Macola (v6.72b). I do, however, know where to look for the info you suggested. That M/P flag in Item Master might help me, but then again, I have some M-MFG items that have no BOM, and so are not parent items.

In an unrelated topic, what's the difference between the IMINVTRX and IMTRXFIL tables?

BTW, thanks for all your help.

Zulu-

I forgot you are on an old version.

I am going on memory here, its been awhile, but IMINVTRX is a history file showing all inventory transactions that have been posted. IMTRXFIL is a temporary file that holds batches of unposted invetntory transactions. IMTRXFIL no longer exists in v7 and up in Macola as all transactions are real time.

Why are you using that old version? Are you interested in upgrading? I can get you a quote if needed. Software Support for Sage Mas90, Macola, Crystal Reports, Goldmine and MS Office

d,
Thanks for the offer, but we already own the Macola upgrade and have decided not to go with it. We like the older DOS version and will stick with it.
Our Inventory Transactions are posted real-time, which would mean we really don't use the IMTRXFIL. Now that I think back, I was unable to create IQ reports with this Table, which makes sense because it contains no data....
Thanks...That answered my question.

Zuluman,

This is a somewhat dated post, but I wanted to revisit it. Are you still totally uninterested in upgrading to your Macola V7.5 which you already own? If not why not? Just curious. Please email me on this if you can.

The field you are looking for is the Low Level code in IMITMIDX. Items with a code of 0 are parent items. I believe this hold true for the old version as well.
