Special Fields in sub reports not displayed

I have created a sub report with report footers a and b. In report footer b I have a selection of special fields such as file author, file create date, file path etc. When I preview the report whilst it is stand-alone all fields display correctly but when I insert it into the main report and preview, some of the special fields don't print - the missing ones are:- file author, comments, file create date, file path, print date. Title and Modified Date display correctly.
I have also tried print date in the page footer but it does not display here either.
Can anyone explain what's happening here?

did you check that can grow is selected.

file infos for a subreport make no sense because while inserting it in the report it's no longer a stand-alone report.
It's embedded in the master report, the link with the original file is broken, and the only file info available will be that one of the main report.
