I get a "Special database object cannot be located" error message every time I try to launch Notes. Version 651 was installed and after an upgrade to Windows XP this message started appearing after getting past the password prompt, then the program just shuts down. I tried un-installing and re-installing, even deleting the ini and installing version 652, but the message keeps appearing and the program won't open. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Every time I've heard of the "special db object", it has always been the view that should be flagged as Default view that was missing.
This means someone with a Designer client should open the db and check if or not a Default view and form exist, and correct the situation if necessary.
The real problem this time is finding out what db is faulty, since your client does not launch. It has to be a db that is automatically opened at startup - and that is generally your mail db.
Is that the case ?

Pascal.

finding a faulty db may not be the answer because there is a group of users that each have a notes client installed and this group has one mail db and a customized db that they all work from (not so much the mail db, but it's there non the less). every other user can access their client and databases just fine. i could be off in left field, but, if it were a problem with the default view and form in either the mail or the customized db wouldn't it effect the other users as well?

If each user accesses his own mail db, then it may be that your mail db has a problem, not the common work db.
Or it may be that your Notes install got zapped somehow and needs to be reinstalled.
The main question I have is what databases do you load at start ?
And do you have a problem accessing your mail if you do it from another client than yours ?

Pascal.

i did try reinstalling at first, but just deleted the ini and not the lotus (data) folder. since it was not the mail database because this could be accessed anywhere else, it was probably bookmark.nsf that was causing the problem. so i removed the program, deleted the lotus folder and reinstalled and it worked.
thanks for the suggestions, it got me thinking in the right direction.
