We use a 3 of 9 barcode (scanners and keypads) to collect data on the shop floor and send it to an Access database. I'd like to eliminate the keypad all together by pre-printing and laminating the necessary codes, etc that the operators would enter and have the card hanging next to the scanner. Everything is fine except when the operator scans out of sequence and gets an error (for instance, scanning 'Stop Operation' when they've never Started an Operation) - the only way to cancel the transaction and clear the terminal is by entering a ")" on the keypad and hitting Enter. How can I generate a barcode for that?

Thanks.

You can't with 3of9, but code128 will work.

Another angle.

Code 128 also gives better compression and if you think of having all bar coded information in single continuous string, you might also get effieciency on the shop floor instead of having the user to cancel ..

This would be entirely feasible if acquire the data for internal use.

The advantages are less operator training / re-traing and errors due to out of sequence operations.
